#GL Spoiler: Alan's emotional week

Phillip takes his dad to meet the family of the man who fought in Alan’s place, and later died, in the Vietnam War. Alan has tried to forget it, as he just doesn’t like to be reminded of his shortcomings. Then, he has a touching moment with the man’s son.
Alan then intercepts Ed’s phone call to Phillip and is shocked when Phillip confirms that he is dying. Alan’s initial reaction is rage and anger that Phillip didn’t tell him, and then he accuses Phillip of lying.
As Alan struggles to cope with the news, he shuts down. He cannot deal with the thought of losing Phillip. Will Alan become mature and embrace his son, or will he continue to be in denial?
