#DOOL Spoiler: Tragedy befalls the Horton clan

Maggie and Mickey
This week, the beloved Mickey Horton dies on Days of Our Lives. Executive Producer Ken Corday says it was a difficult decision to kill off a character who has been with the show since it’s debut in 1965. Once John Clarke left, after 40 years, it was difficult to recast.
The last few months they have been having Maggie talking to Mickey on the phone, always out of town on business. They have also showed several pictures of Maggie and Mickey, with John Clarke portraying Mickey.
Here’s how the story plays out: Ironically, Maggie has made the decision to spend more time with her husband in the new year. She talks him into taking a cruise because Doug and Julie are always talking about them and how wonderful they are.
Mickey is upstairs packing, and Maggie goes up to start her packing and finds Mickey dead. (They couldn’t use Clarke, so someone put a sheet over the body.) Then Maggie goes downstairs in shock, and Hope shows up. Hope is all chit-chat and doesn’t notice Maggie is stone still – no reaction. Hope says, “I know Uncle Mickey likes stars, so I bought you both a Star Map,” and goes on and on. Then Hope asks Maggie if something is wrong. After getting the tough news, Hope takes actions and makes arrangements and then leaves to tell Alice. Hope will turn to Bo in the aftermath and Maggie will now become the matriarch of the family.
Speaking of Alice, Frances Reid, who has played Alice since the beginning, is now 95. Will we ever see Alice on-screen again?
