October was Cancer Awareness month and one of the Soap stars that I follow is Michael Muhney. He tweeted in early October about his Cancer Foundation that he has set up and was requesting donations. My mother survived pancreatic cancer for 20 years, thanks to her awesome surgeon, and I donated $75.00 to his cause.

Today I received a phone call from a Private Number. I almost didn’t answer it, but boy am I glad that I did. The person on the other end was none other than Michael Muhney from the Young and the Restless. That’s how he identified himself. Like I really believed that! He then said he was calling to thank me for my donation to his foundation, I definitely recognized the voice of “Adam Newman” and was shocked. It really was him! He mentioned that he had 15 people that he was going to call, the first one he said he  got an answering machine and was hoping that they heard the message and was glad that I answered!

We talked for close to 10 minutes. I live in Texas and he is from Texas.  My husband and I moved from the San Fernando Valley in California and he lives in the same area.  I told him that I loved him and Victoria butting heads on the show today and he said he loves it too. We talked a little bit about the show, although he couldn’t give me any spoilers LOL. I really wanted to know if he and Sharon were getting back together, but he was mum about that. I have to say that I did appreciate that he wouldn’t say anything because God knows if I would have been able to keep quiet.

I asked if he would give me permission to tweet that he called, of course he said yes. After I posted he RT and said 13 to go. I have tweeted again for the link to his foundation, but I think he’s working. They didn’t have the day off today. Adam may be the character that we love to hate, but Michael Muhney is the person that we love.

When ABC cancelled two of their Soaps, All My Children and One Life to Win, soap fans started campaigning to save the genre. Both show have been on the air for over 40 years. Granted when CBS cancelled Guiding Light and As the World Turns, both on air 50 plus years, the fans were visibly upset, but not to this extent. Of course, they were cancelled two years apart – not on the same day in April, 2011. Plus from all indications, it looks like General Hospital will also be cancelled. This is just conjecture, there is nothing concrete about this so please don’t say that I said it for sure. That’s how vicious rumors get started.

Soap fans everywhere have united and are demanding that the cancelled shows get a reprieve, possibly on CBS or NBC, or get thecable-television companies to support a new soap cable channel to replace the soon to depart SoapNet. In order to do this a new coupon campaign has been started. These coupons are easy to fill out. You provide your Cable Company or Sattelite’s name, fill out
your name and address, clip it and mail it to the post office box included on the coupon. Pretty easy isn’t it? Your voice WILL be heard! Fill out and send ONE coupon per household members.

Where can you obtain your coupons? This weeks Globe magazine on sale NOW. They will also be available in the next issues of CBS Soaps In Depth and ABC Soaps in Depth. Or you can go to Sudz.tv on the Internet.

Last night, June 19th, the 38th annual Daytime Emmys were held in Las Vegas. To say it was a disaster would be a huge understatement. I’m glad I writing this today, instead of last night, as I wouldn’t have been as kind. The Daytime Emmys used to be held exclusively in New York City, of course that’s where the majority of the Soap Operas were produced. Some years back they were alternated between Los Angeles and NYC and now for the 2nd year in a row they are in Las Vegas. Yes, it gives the stars a new playground to go to, but why were they held on Father’s Day and opposite the popular Miss USA Pageant?? From the very beginning it was a travelogue for Las Vegas, including commercials, and that got old really fast. Don’t forget the showgirls, Marie Osmond and the 15-20 minute tribute to Oprah! Speaking of Oprah, they created a new special Emmy for her, supposedly the first annual, had this way too long tribute to her and guess what? She couldn’t even attend the awards to accept, but had a ‘nice’ taped acceptance speech.

There was no televised Red Carpet coverage! Normally SoapNet televises awesome coverage, oh yeah, they are owned by ABC/D and have been cancelled in 2012. Couldn’t CBS do the awards from 9-11 EDT and do Red Carpet from 8-9? Now THAT would have been a coup. Due to all of the Vegas promos and so much time for Oprah, there was no time to show the clips of the nominees. That was a travesty as many fans were upset by who did win and who they thought should win. However, if we had seen the clips, we might have been able to understand it better. On Twitter @SoapsInDepthCBS stated several times that they had seen the clips and COULD understand why some won. It was all about the clips that the stars, or shows, had sent in. Having the right clips for the judges to view makes a huge difference.

There was little mention of AMC or OLTL being cancelled much less a tribute to them. Okay, I hear the argument – they are technically still on the air until September and January. However, shouldn’t there at least been a tribute to ATWT? After all, Julie Pinson was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress, Colleen Zenk for Outstanding Lead Actress and Michael Park WON for Outstanding Lead Actor (he was performing on Broadway and couldn’t be present). Surely, some kind of tribute should have been done.

On the upside Tracey E. Bregman introduced that Jabot Cosmetics was going public, and I don’t mean stock wise LOL. Jabot has been a storyline on Young and Restless for about 20 years and it’s nice to see that the viewers can now purchase their own line of Jabot Cosmetics, in fact I purchased my Red Carpet Collection last night. ShopJabot. They had several short interviews with Tracey and some commercials. Also, the spot on Children’s Miracle Network, featuring several of our Soap Opera stars was excellent. Wayne Brady introduced Susan Lucci, as Erica Cane, having been married 8 times – big gaff. Enter Shemar Moore (YEAH), ex-Malcolm on Y&R who quickly corrected that and said 11 weddings. They did a tribute to all of Erica’s weddings and spoofed her getting married to Regis and Ellen, it was humorous but they couldn’t do something for the incredible Erica Slezak?

Did you know that the ratings were down 27% last night? That should tell TPTB something and why I called it a disaster!

Enough of my ranting now, I do want to congratulate all of the winners especially B&B for being Best Drama for the 3rd year in a row. it is now time for the fan base to unite and stick by our remaining soaps. Keep tuned in for more information and SEND IN YOUR COUPONS!

For the last week, or so, I have been numb and just didn’t know what to say. So I thank you for your patience and allowing me to say all that I have to say now.

I, as others, had heard the rumors that either All My Children or One Life To Live were going to be cancelled. I sighed and prayed it was just a malicious rumor. First of all, I thought, they wouldn’t cancel AMC. ABC had recently spent an enormous amount of money relocating AMC from New to a spectacular new studio in Los Angeles. Now the rumor regarding OLTL was a little more feasible. I had noticed they had been falling in ratings, however, it didn’t make sense seeing that they  had been gaining in the ratings race.

Then on April 14th the bomb dropped. BOTH AMC and OLTL had been cancelled. I couldn’t believe it! Granted, as my readers know, I don’t currently follow those shows but I have in the past. In fact, about 25 years ago I was fortunate enough to be on the OLTL set and was honored to meet Erica Slezak, the late Asa Carey, Robert S. Woods, to name a few – in fact, Imogene Coca was playing a cleaning lady on that episode. I watched AMC at the beginning with Erica and Phil and of course there was GH with the Luke and Laura HUGE story. However, times pass and due to different circumstances I was back to watching shows from my childhood and a few new ones. Sorry, I guess I’m regressing and need to get back on the subject.

AMC, after 41 years, will be gone in September of this year and OLTL in January 2012. What are these shows being replaced with? A show focused on food called The Chew and The Revolution focused on health. Do we not have enough of those shows now? We have a full network called the FOOD Network that deals with food, plus Rachael Ray. As far as health issues we have Dr. Oz and The Doctors and I’m sure there is a health network out there with all of the cable stations.

What really ticks me off is the unemployment of not only the actors, but all of the crew and the Soap Magazines! Plus, what about all of the actors that had lived in the NYC area, probably all of their lives, uprooted and moved their families to the West Coast – that’s despicable.

In the last 2 years CBS has lost two of the longest running Soaps – Guiding Light and As The World Turns. I used to watch both of those shows with my Grandmother and watched GL till the very end. Oh yes, there were times that the story-lines were just too ridiculous for me to continue watching – but I always came back. I think we have all done that from time to time and don’t even tell me that you haven’t, LOL.

When GL and ATWT were cancelled the fans gathered around trying to save their shows. It didn’t work. The fans of AMC and OLTL are attempting the same thing, however, I don’t think it will work for them either.  So what can we do to keep our shows on the air?

Come 2012 there will only be 4 Soaps left for us. General Hospital on ABC, Days of Our Lives on NBC and Bold and Beautiful and Young and Restless on CBS. Do you care about these shows? Then stand up and make sure you watch, go to their sites and message boards and talk about the show(s) – both the good and the bad regarding story-lines, the powers that be DO listen, believe it or not. Be loyal to the sponsors that are on YOUR Soaps – purchase their products, write to them and thank them. Write to the show and let them know your loyalty. Attend Soap events – contact your favorite stars (just don’t stalk them LOL). Every little thing will help.

We need to do what we can to save our remaining shows. If we don’t we will have a daytime full of reality shows, talk shows, game shows, food shows, yada yada yada. Also support the Soaps Web Series: The Bay; Steamboat; and Venice just to name a few. And for all of you Another World lovers check out www.anotherworldtoday.com.

There has been a lot going on with the women of Genoa City the last few weeks and I have had several opinions floating around in my head. Today I’m going to express some of those opinions.

Jana – Why doesn’t everyone realize that Jana is the master of faking her ‘illnesses’. Don’t get me wrong, the character is an outstanding actress. She definitely has her doctor fooled and I loved it when Gloria was questioning her about little things, trying to trip her up. Jana did do a remarkable job on answering every single question. At first both Kevin and Chloe weren’t sure, but after the doctor and Gloria they, too, think that Jana has “amnesia”. However, the most glaring clue is the fact that she NEVER asked what happened to her hair? She claims that she doesn’t remember anything the kidnapping, being locked in a cage with Lauren, having the brain trauma, etc., etc., but it was after all that occurred that she cut her hair and not once has she asked about it – and for that matter, no one else seems to notice that slight omission either. Wake up people!

Sharon – Oh, don’t even get me started on this little tramp, I have a lot to say about her. The fact that she is defending Adam, and trying to prove his innocence, is beyond the realm of common sense. This is the man that stole her baby from her and told her that the child was dead for over 6 months! Personally I could never forgive anyone of that, much less sleep with him. Sharon claims to love Faith and is going to fight Nick for custody, and I’m sure she does love her daughter – but, obviously she loves Adam more. She says that she never tried to keep Nick away from his children when he was with Phyllis, even though she thought that Phyllis was a bad influence. However, Phyllis never tried to kidnap Nick’s children nor try to make him believe that they were dead when they weren’t. Also, remember when Sharon was pregnant she wasn’t sure who of the THREE possible baby daddy’s was the actual one. Once Adam was released from jail, Sharon brought him home to live with her??? No wonder Nick was full custody! Sharon needs to get her priorities (not her libido) straight.

Skye – Is Skye really dead? Me thinks not. She has faked her death twice before, that we know of,  so I can see her rising from the ashes, once again.  In all of the Soap magazines there are comings/goings or ins/outs, regarding actor’s status’s. There has not been one mention of the incredible Laura Stone being released from Y&R. I would love to have Skye return to wreak havoc on Adam and  Sharon (and Victor for that matter).

Nikki – I hate to see Nikki being placed on back burner status again and I hope that it doesn’t last very long. I was so pleased with the story-lines late last year dealing with her “falling off the wagon” thanks to Meggie. Now she’s been relegated for trying to get the family back together and have everyone love Victor? <gag me> Melody Thomas Scott’s talents are being wasted and the powers that be need to fix this. Speaking of…..

Meggie – Wouldn’t it be great to have Sean Young return as Meggie? Now this would give Nikki a chance to come back to a front-burner storyline. It would also give Katherine and Murphy some well deserved story-line, also. A skillful attorney, such as Vance Abrahms, shouldn’t have any problem getting her case thrown out in Alaska – heck he’s gotten Adam off the hook how many times?

Hey, ya’ll! I apologize for not posting in quite some some, but never fear, Patti’s here and ‘ back posting.

First, let me explain why I’ve been gone. My energy levels basically bottomed out and I just wasn’t up to the task. Fortunately I have been feeling a lot better and then my computer fried! Oh what a sad situation that was <sigh>. I do have an older laptop (at least 10 years old) that was still running Windows2000. While I loved that O/S, most programs don’t support it any longer. Plus it was slow LOL.

My darling Larry got me a new laptop for Christmas. It’s an HP, runs Windows7, has 4 gigs of memory, etc., etc. I was quite pleased that Win7 is similar to Win2000 and there wasn’t a huge learning experience. Larry also got me an iPad and I have been having a blast with it. Okay, you can call me “spoiled rotten” now.

I decided, last night, that my New Year’s Resolution is to start posting again – but a tad bit differently. I’m going to concentrate on “my opinion” topics for my 3 soaps that I watch, DOOL, Y&R, and B&B. Some will be long posts, others short. For example, why does everyone still hate Carly and what’s up with “Saint Kayla” on Days. Brooke and Thomas, along with Taylor’s hypocrisy and the Hope/Liam/Oliver triangle that now has Amber in the mix. I’m actually missing Steffy on B&B.  Then we have nut-cake Sharon on Y&R along with Diane sleeping her way around town and we can’t forget psycho Daisy and Jana. That’s just a few topics off the top of my head.

I probably won’t be doing a lot of Spoilers, but I will let you know about Casting News and Late Breaking News. There are some days I might be posting a lot and other days nothing. It just depends on what’s going on. I will also be posting short thoughts on Twitter, so please follow me @myworldofsoaps.

Marcy Rylan

Normally when a Soap Opera ages a child or teenager, we haven’t seen that character for awhile – such was the case of Bold and Beautiful’s Hope- we hadn’t seen Hope in years and now this 17 year old new Hope is totally believable.

However, this week the Young and Restless took  a totally different tactic. Two weeks ago Abby was in high school,this week March Rylan took on the role of Abby as a twenty-something hell-raising Abby, and I must say that Rylan rocks! Usually it’s hard for both the audience and the actor to engage with a recent recast. However, Rylan has done an excellent job and I’m in excited with the direction the writer’s are taking Abby. She is feisty, knows what she wants and is not afraid to stand up to her father – the “great” Victor Newman. Abby wants to be the new Paris Hilton and have her own reality show. Any issues she has with her family , or anyone, this is her time to air them out on TV and anyone who has ever crossed her had better watch out.

Rylan is not new to being a recast as she  previously aired on Guiding Light as the recast of Lizzie Spaulding. She was much younger then and it took some time, at least for me, to embrace her in that role. However, she did eventually make the character her own.

This time it only took one day to make the role of Abby Newman her own and I am thrilled to see where she takes it.

Peter Bergman, Stacy Haiduk

Jack comes across what he thinks is Emily’s diary and is disturbed to find a bunch of gibberish that makes no sense. Jack shares the journal with Ashley and worries that something is seriously wrong with his wife. As they are talking about Patty and Emily, Jack comes to a frightening realization that Patty may have switched places with Emily.

Patty returns home and Jack immediately confronts her about the diary. “Emily” explains it belongs to Patty but he tells her he saw her writing in it. He accuses her of taking Emily’s place. Patty just pretends to be shocked and hurt by his suspicions.

Jack leaves, then comes up with a plan to prove his theory. Patty is now scared, and good things don’t happen when she gets scared.

Did Heather take the cup that Emily gave her and have the DNA test run?

Tracey E. Bregman

Ryder subdues Daisy so Lauren and Jana can flee, but it isn’t easy for them as Jana is very sick and can barely move. Lauren basically has to drag her along.

Meanwhile, Sarah breaks into Phyllis’s house to kill her. A terrified Phyllis hides in the closet but Sarah finds her. Phyllis is shocked to see it’s “Lauren” who is trying to kill her. Phyllis slams the door on Sarah’s arm and yells that she called security, and Sarah runs off.

Michael later shows up and Phyllis recounts how Lauren attacked her. Michael calls Lauren’s cell phone, and when Sarah answers he hears the music in the background and figures out she’s at the amusement park. He and Phyllis head out there.

In the meantime, Jana and Lauren are confronted by an armed Sarah. Kevin shows up, and Sarah shoots at him but misses. Lauren knows that she’s the one Sarah wants and runs off so Sarah will follow. When Michael and Phyllis arrive, they hear the gunfire as Sarah chases Lauren into the fun-house of mirrors.

Michael approaches Sarah, thinking she’s Lauren, and the real Lauren shows herself to Michael and yells that he’s with Sheila’s sister, Sarah. They both are dressed alike, so Michael doesn’t know whom to believe.

Lauren and Sarah go back and forth trying to convince him who is the real Lauren. When Lauren starts reciting Michael’s wedding vows to him, he knows that she’s his wife.

Lauren grabs the gun from Sarah, but will Sarah meet the same fate as her sister? Lauren is not a killer, but is determined to get out of this nightmare, once and for all.

Stacy Haiduk

When “Emily” (aka Patty) told Jack she was pregnant, Jack was more suspicious than thrilled by the news. The main reason is because she hasn’t had it confirmed by a doctor. She explains to Jack that she’s a doctor and knows the signs. Jack insists on confirmation from another doctor. “Emily” stalls and says she has an appointment in 2 weeks and gives him a hard-to-pronounce name of her OB/GYN. After he calls the hospital, he finds out that this doctor is actually a cardiologist.

Jack goes to see Phyllis and says that ‘Emily” isn’t the same woman and isn’t sure he even loves her. (Oh, could it be because it is NOT Emily, it’s actually Patty?) When Jack comes home he informs “Emily” that they have an appointment with Phyllis’s OB/GYN, and that really pisses Patty off.

Patty immediately heads to Phyllis’s and tells her to leave Jack alone. Phyllis is getting a first hand look at what Jack was talking about. Patty snaps when Phyllis says something bout Jack having second thoughts about their marriage. Patty threatens Phyllis and when Phyllis wants to call Jack, Patty decides to use her “pregnancy” to her advantage. She starts saying “My baby, oh my God.” She grabs one of Phyllis’s chairS and starts shaking. When she goes home she tells Jack that she lost the baby and it’s Phyllis’ fault. She’s devastated and uses it to get Jack’s sympathy, but he doesn’t believe her and doesn’t think she was ever pregnant.

How will Patty get out of this? Will the faux “Lauren” help?
